Business schools
are not all business.
More than ever
before, schools want to develop a class of individuals with
solid values, committed either to family or to a familial
community. Where did you come from? What did you learn along
the road to B-school? What can you bring from your life
experience that will be an advantage to this class, as well
as to future employers or employees?
The MBA program is intense: two power-packed years that
can result in a high-profile job and a starting pay that
exceeds many other degree areas. The better schools want
to know something more about what makes you tick, and a
personal personal essay, one that reveals something about
your family or your background, gives the admissions officers
one more link to knowing who you really are.
The three essayists
in this section represent different approaches and experiences,
but each invites the reader into a private space, at least
for the moment.
